Cottage Reflections Term 3 Week 1

Extending our THRASS Knowledge

Today the children used the big THRASS cards during our literacy groups. They looked at each word in the first row of the consonant chart. We then said the word and then the phonemes, for example bird (b ir d) has three phonemes. They then were invited to have a try at remembering the sounds for each of the phoneme boxes.

They also played THRASS lotto and had to repeat the phonemes for each of the pictures on their card.
We thought Gymnastics started this week but it begins in Week 4, so the children had fun working on their ball skills during sport.

What's On For Term 3

Welcome to Term 3

Welcome to Term 3. The children were very happy to see their friends today and meet their new friend Annabel. Home corner has been set up as a coffee shop and we began the day looking at the words and items we might see in a coffee shop. We then looked at the phonemes in the word coffee ( c o ff ee) the children found out there were four phonemes and six letters. They then used the words we had written on the white board to make menus for our coffee shop. In our library session the children listened to a story about bread. They laughed as the bread ran away to have a party with the other food. We also saw different foods from our coffee shop in the story.
Outside the weather was so warm. We stayed outside for an extra long play, enjoying the sunshine.

Cottage Reflections Term 2 Week 9

Healthy Harold

This week the children enjoyed a visit from Healthy Harold. Harold taught the children the importance of eating a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner. He also talked about the importance of exercise and brushing our teeth. The children played games to reinforce these. Everyone got to have a turn to either choose a physical activity for everyone to do or to help pack a healthy lunch for Harold or to practice brushing the giant teeth. At the end Harold got a hug from each child.
