Developing our Phonemic Awareness
The children have had fun this week discovering the initial phonemes in different words. They played pass the parcel, pulling out different pictures. They had to say the word and then say the initial phoneme for that word. They then went on a phoneme hunt around the classroom. There lots of pictures hidden around the room and they had to find them and stick them on their whiteboard. We then sat back down and everyone took turns to say the word and then the phoneme for their pictures.

Fine Motor Olympics
We have started our Fine Motor Olympics! The children had fun completing different activities designed to help develop their hand and finger strength. The children had to search for jewels in the thera putty, pinch play dough, make block towers using their pinching fingers, use tweezers to pick up different sized beads, use an eyedropper to collect water and make the different pegs snap like a crocodile . The children can hardly wait to do it all again tomorrow.

PALS Program
Today the children had their first PALS lesson with Mr Marrett. The PALS Socials Skills Program is an Australian research-based educational program developed by clinical psychologists and early childhood teachers to assist children aged 3 to 6 years of age to develop communication skills and social behaviours. They met Mr Marrett's puppet friends Bob, Moe and Mr Smith. The children had fun learning about to look, smile and say hello.

Welcome to Term 2
Today the children spent the day settling back into school. They said hello to old friends and welcomed a new friend as well. They did lots of sorting and classifying at the light box and with the tiny farm animals. We played a new game 'Silly Safari' which had the children using their visual discrimination skills to find the missing animals.
