Looking for objects that begin with the letter 'b'

Today we had fun looking for objects that begin with the sound 'b' as in bird. The children walked around the school with whiteboards. They drew the different objects they found. We then came back
and wrote them on the big whiteboard. We found 24 objects.

A Wonderful Day

Today during our Maths groups the children played different number and counting games. They counted out different objects on the number mat and were introduced to the 10's frame in our frog game. They then sang Five Little Speckled Frogs together as a class. We talked about the rhyming words in the song and tried to think of other rhyming words as well. We had other activities to reinforce our counting and number recognition in our guided play session. There number puzzles, games on the smart board and games on the computers.
Outside we used our boxes to set up a home corner with the dolls and dress ups. The children enjoyed the warm weather as they played with their friends in their box cubby house. We had the trains and play dough outside as well and we loved how settled and calm the children's play was.

Box Play

This week we read ‘Miss Mae’s Saturday’ and ‘The Box Boy’ during our weekly Library lesson. Both stories were about children who use their imaginations and boxes to take them around the world.  We then placed different sized boxes outside for the children to use during their play. The boxes soon became a cubby house, a rocket, a piano and a car. The children were engrossed in their play as they negotiated the use of the boxes, having fun with their peers. Playing with a cardboard box can build skills such as creativity, imagination and resourcefulness as the children build with them, transform and reinvent them.
