Kind and Caring Cottage Students

We have been talking about the meaning of the word compassion. One of the ways the children have shown compassion and kindness has been the way they have been caring for the nesting birds in our playground. They have placed water down in a bowl each week so that the mummy bird has not had far to go to have a drink. Today we watched as the birds flew down to swim in the water while we were eating lunch, trusting that the children were kind and caring. We also had some Lorikeets come and steal a grape from one of our lunch boxes. The children then had fun dressing up as birds and playing with the toy birds at the small world table.

The Jelly Wobbles

Cottage enjoyed going to the weekly chapel service today where they saw a Jelly Wobbles Concert. The Jelly Wobbles taught us some great songs about how much Jesus loves us. They also talked about the meaning of Easter. This was the first time that Cottage has been to chapel and they were amazing!

The Importance of Outdoor Play

Research tells us that the experiences children have through quality outdoor play has a great influence and effect on the growth of their brain and creates strong foundations for future development in all areas.
Playing freely outdoors helps children with the development of social skills, spatial awareness, cooperation, communication and sensory awareness. Outdoor play can also assist children to learn about decision making, develop their ability to share, develop conceptual ability, the ability to imagine an idea without seeing it in practice, learn about their body and their ability as well as become more independent.

Gardening in The Valley

Today we helped Mrs Bennett by weeding the garden beds in The Valley. We had to pull out the old zucchini and celery plants as well as the weeds. We had to be very careful not to pull out the marigolds, strawberries or lavender plants. While we were gardening we noticed ladybirds and caterpillars on the leaves. Everyone worked together to get the soil ready for some new Autumn planting. While we were working we found a giant zucchini. We took it to show Mrs Bennett, who is going to take home and eat it for her dinner. After we had finished we went to the play equipment for a slide.
