This week we
read ‘Miss Mae’s Saturday’ and ‘The Box Boy’ during our weekly Library lesson.
Both stories were about children who use their imaginations and boxes to take
them around the world. We then placed
different sized boxes outside for the children to use during their play. The
boxes soon became a cubby house, a rocket, a piano and a car. The children were
engrossed in their play as they negotiated the use of the boxes, having fun
with their peers. Playing with a cardboard box can build skills such as creativity,
imagination and resourcefulness as the children build with them, transform and
reinvent them.
