Why do birds make nests?

Over the past two weeks the children have been finding out about why birds make nests. After our class discussion the children decided that birds make nests to keep their eggs and babies safe and warm. We challenged the children to make their own nest out of clay and natural materials. Today we read some books about eggs and baby birds. The children were invited to make eggs and baby birds to go inside their nest. Many of the visitors we had during open day were impressed with the way the children used their problem solving skills as they worked with the clay and natural materials.
